Hi Helene: Very clever and very cool use of Jackson Browne's great song. I'm so very happy your eye procedures were a success, and that you can see clearly now. Hmm, I think that's also a song lyric. Not sure what song, though. Anyway, I can sort of relate. I underwent much-needed cataract surgery on both eyes last year. Being able to once again see clearly, read street signs and drive at night was (and is) a truly wonderful thing. I still require glasses (with a new prescription) for up close reading (magazines, books, the paper). Yes, I still get it delivered, even though it's become a shell of itself, especially our beloved sports section. Take care, BC

I feel your pain Helene with regards to your eyes. I had cataract surgery in 2022 and I was 20/20 in both eyes afterwards. In March of this year the retina in my left eye detached and I had a procedure in the doctors office for a month and I was able to get to 20/50 vision in the eye until it detached again and then I went in for surgery and now I’m at 20/60 and that’s about as good as It’s going to get. It’s hell getting old isn’t it!

Oh my, detachment is nasty. So sorry that you've had to go through that multiple times. Getting old really does stink!

thanks for sharing. Your description of your progressive eye damage will alert more than a few of your readers. I too, had the "floating" black spots in each eye. Eventually, it became a nuisance and I popped into my eye doctor's office just because I was driving by one day and it was too convenient not to. Turned out, one eye had the retina was torn and the other was detached. They repaired the torn retina with laser surgery and it's fine. They've operated on my other eye three times. They made a mistake during surgery number one. The 2nd and 3rd surgeries were done to attempt to fix surgery one. My vision out of this eye is like "seeing" through dense fog and what I can detect, is like looking into a funhouse mirror, all is distorted and all at a 45 degree angle. Balance is a challenge and sometimes comical. Zero depth perception. Driving at night or in rain or snow, not a chance, lol. I'm amazed your vision is better than ever and ecstatic for you. Stay on top of those dust bunnies. Again, thanks for sharing. Readers, don't take your vision for granted!

I am glad the surgery helped! I use social media only to read comments on sports writers and broadcasters I respect like yourself. Don’t have a need to read responses. And you named 2 of my 3 favorite twilight zone episodes. “To serve man” was the other.

Great read, thanks. And don't worry about TWILIGHT ZONE's Henry Bemis. I'm sure there are dozens of empty optometrist offices within blocks of the library, and he has time.

Maybe but he couldn’t see well enough to find one!

Cataract surgery will be a joy yet to come in a few years. I just turned 62 this July. I have noticed that through the years it is too hard to read books with small print. Being able to enjoy books on Kindle and bump up the font as much as I like has been wonderful. The Twilight episode with Burgess Meredith is one of my favorites. The thought of all those books and no glasses was terrible. I had empathy for his plight. Glad to hear that the surgeries have helped. I look forward to reading more of your stories.

So glad all your surgeries went well for you. As for soc media, its greatest use is spreading the wide wide word on animals in need of adoption. Hundreds of thousands of pets have found 4-ever homes tks to the spectrum of soc media. One random shared post can be the difference between life in a cage--or a grim ending---& Life with blue skies.Clear away the photos of sandwiches & endless rabbit holes, skip the nutjob rants on conspiracies The connections that count are the hearts embracing those critters whose eyes shine with hope.

Thanks for sharing. My 90 year old dad is hopefully going through cataract surgery next month. Need to make sure he does not back out

Glad to hear your surgery went well.

Your retina situation was far worse than my simple cataract surgery. It is amazing to see the world in technicolor after the doctors perform their miracles.

Ignore the dust… it always comes back anyway!!
